Pfizer starts oral drug trial for prevention of COVID-19

Pfizer Inc has stated that it has initiated a large study to test its investigational oral antiviral drug to prevent COVID-19 infection among individuals who have been exposed to the virus.

The mid-to-late-stage study will evaluate the drug, PF-07321332, in nearly 2,660 healthy adult individuals, 18 years of age and older, living in the same household as an individual with a confirmed symptomatic COVID-19 infection. The drug, designed to inhibit the activity of an important enzyme needed for the virus to multiply, will be given along with a low dose of ritonavir.
